Everything Inside AceTagGen
A step-by-step walkthrough of every feature, tool, and trick in the system. After reading this, you'll know exactly how to build prompts that make SUNO do what you want.
How AceTagGen Works
SUNO processes your tags as weighted signals — the first tag gets the most weight (~50%), and each subsequent tag gets less. AceTagGen builds your prompt in the exact order that SUNO prioritizes: Genre first, then Mood, Instruments, Vocals, Production, BPM, and Key. Every step is designed around verified SUNO behavior.
The sweet spot is 5-8 tags in the Style field and 40-60 lines in the Lyrics field. AceTagGen enforces these limits automatically and warns you when something might cause issues.
Step 1: Genre Family FREE
Choose from 16 music families — Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Latin, R&B, Folk/Country, Cinematic, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Reggae/Caribbean.
- •1,680 total sub-genres across all families
- •Global search — type any style name to find it instantly across all families
- •Each family shows how many sub-genres it contains
- •Selecting a genre auto-filters instruments, moods, and recommendations in all later steps
Pro tip: Genre is the #1 tag — SUNO gives it approximately 50% weight. Everything else builds on top of this.
Step 2: Sub-Genre FREE
Drill down into the exact style. Large families (Hip-Hop has 220 sub-genres!) are organized into collapsible categories — Classic & Old School, Trap & Modern, Regional, etc.
- •Search and filter within the selected family
- •"Surprise Me" button picks a random style for exploration
- •Categories auto-expand if your selection is inside them
- •Auto-scroll to your previous selection when returning to this step
Pro tip: More specific sub-genres produce more consistent results. 'Melodic Death Metal' is more predictable than just 'Metal'.
Step 3: Era / Decade FREE
Set the time period for your sound. 11 options from 1950s to 2020s, plus "Modern" and "Vintage/Retro". Or leave it on "No preference" to let SUNO decide.
The era is prepended to your genre tag (e.g., "90s Alternative Rock") — this is intentional, as SUNO treats the combined phrase as a single strong token.
Pro tip: Era shapes the production. '90s Rock' sounds fundamentally different from 'Modern Rock' — same genre, different feel.
Step 4: Mood & Emotion FREE
185 mood tags organized across 13 categories — from dark and aggressive to bright and euphoric. Each mood directly influences the emotional direction of your song.
- •25 "Popular" moods — the most reliable tags tested by the community
- •13 categories: Happy, Sad, Energetic, Romantic, Aggressive, Horror, Dark, Dreamy, Cinematic, Blues/Soul, Calm, Atmosphere, Events
- •Genre-specific recommendations — choose Jazz and see which moods work best with Jazz
- •Conflict detection warns if you pick contradicting moods (e.g., Calm + Aggressive)
- •Community ratings show success rates for each mood tag
Pro tip: 1-2 moods work best. More than 2 can confuse SUNO and produce inconsistent results.
Step 5: Instruments PREMIUM
414 instruments across 13 families — from Keyboards and Guitars to World instruments and Production FX. Each instrument can be previewed with real audio before you select it.
- •Recommended tab with 3 tiers: Essential, Commonly Used, Creative Additions — all filtered by your genre
- •Full Library with collapsible families, each showing count
- •Audio preview — hear each instrument before selecting
- •"Auto-Pick" button with 3 variations: Classic, Modern, Unique
- •2-4 instruments is ideal; the system warns if you pick too many
Instrument Placement — Where Each Instrument Goes
Don't just pick instruments — place them in specific sections. Put piano in the Intro, electric guitar in the Chorus, strings in the Bridge.
Style Field (max 2 instruments)
The first 2 instruments go into the Style field — these affect the entire song globally. This is your core sound. More than 2 instruments in Style dilutes the signal and SUNO may ignore some of them.
Song Sections (1 instrument per section recommended)
Additional instruments go into specific Lyrics sections as bracket tags. These are 10x more powerful than Style field tags for controlling what plays where. Keep it to 1 instrument per section — more than that makes the mix muddy and SUNO may drop some.
- • 5 main targets: Style, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Outro
- • 9 extra targets: Intro, Pre-Chorus, Verse 2, Final Chorus, Solo, Drop, Hook, Breakdown, Build-Up
- • You choose where each instrument goes — or let AceTagGen auto-distribute
Pro tip: Concrete instrument names (TR-909, Moog Bass) produce more consistent results than generic ones (drums, synth).
Step 6: Vocals PREMIUM
Full vocal control with 4 dimensions:
- •Voice Type: Male, Female, Duet, Choir, Distant Choir, Instrumental, Rap, Spoken Word
- •Vocal Range: Tenor, Baritone, Bass (male) / Soprano, Mezzo, Alto (female)
- •Tone & Character: 44 options in 5 categories — Warm & Smooth, Light & Airy, Rough & Gritty, Emotional, Dark & Special
- •Technique: 31 options in 6 categories — Singing, Harmonies, Rap & Spoken, Extreme, Effects, Special
- •All filtered by genre — recommended options highlighted
Pro tip: Vocal style is a strong token — SUNO follows it closely. One clear vocal direction works best.
Step 7: Tempo & Rhythm PREMIUM
Precise BPM control with a visual slider (40-200 BPM), auto-set to your genre's default.
- •6 tempo presets: Largo, Adagio, Andante, Moderato, Allegro, Presto
- •Groove / Rhythm Feel: 10 options — Straight, Shuffle, Swing, 4-on-the-floor, Breakbeat, Syncopated, Half-time, Double-time, Triplet
- •Time Signature: 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 5/4, 7/8
- •Each option includes an explanation of what it sounds like
Pro tip: Numeric BPM gives SUNO 3x better tempo accuracy than words like 'fast' or 'slow'.
Step 8: Production Style PREMIUM
172 production tags across 10 categories — plus 7 Quick Presets for fast setup.
- •Quick Presets: Polished & Clean, Raw & Organic, Lo-fi & Warm, Cinematic & Epic, Live & Gritty, Bright & Modern, Dark & Moody
- •10 categories: Global, Reverb & Space, Delay, Distortion & FX, Modulation, Vintage/Texture, Cinematic, Vocal Mix, Mix Control, Commercial
- •Genre-specific recommendations
- •Each tag has a description explaining its effect on the sound
Pro tip: Production tags fine-tune the sonic texture — lo-fi, reverb, analog warmth. 1-2 tags are enough.
Step 9: Song Editor PREMIUM
The most powerful step — this is where your song comes to life
Bracket tags in the Lyrics field are 10x more powerful than the same instruction in the Style field. This is where you control exactly what happens in each moment of your song — which instruments play, how loud, what vocal style, and what effects to use.
4 Ways to Start
Paste lyrics → auto-detect structure (identifies Verse, Chorus, Bridge by analyzing repeating patterns)
Enter a topic + language → AI writes lyrics that fit your genre and structure (12 languages supported)
6 templates: Standard Pop, EDM, Rock, Ballad, Hip-Hop, Simple — or auto-select by genre
No lyrics at all. SUNO generates everything based on your Style field.
The Editor
A visual timeline at the top shows your song structure with color-coded sections. Click any section to jump to it. Drag sections to reorder.
14 Section Types
Intro, Verse, Pre-Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, Outro, Solo, Drop, Hook, Build-Up, Breakdown, Interlude, Post-Chorus, Refrain — each with a unique color for visual clarity.
Per-Section Controls
- •Instrument — assign a specific instrument to each section (from your selections or genre defaults)
- •Energy — 15 levels from Gentle to Maximum, including Crescendo, Fade Out, and Swell
- •Vocal Delivery — context-sensitive: Whispered, Soft, Powerful, Falsetto for singers; Fast Flow, Melodic for rappers
- •Drag & drop to reorder sections
- •Duplicate any section (copies all settings)
- •Add/remove sections freely
Line-Level Effects (the + button)
Hover over any lyrics line and click + to insert an effect after that line. These become bracket tags that SUNO processes as arrangement instructions.
Text Selection Effects
Select any word or phrase in your lyrics with your mouse — a floating toolbar appears with 6 vocal effects that modify how SUNO sings that specific text:
SUNO Preview + Copy
A live preview panel at the bottom shows exactly what SUNO will receive — formatted with all your bracket tags, effects, and lyrics. One-click copy. Shows word count and line count.
Step 10: Background Sound Effects PREMIUM
71 ambient sound effects across 4 categories that add background texture to your song.
- •Nature: Rain, Thunder, Wind, Ocean, Birds, Forest and more
- •Urban: Traffic, Crowd, Sirens, Train, City ambience
- •Musical: Vinyl crackle, Record scratch, Tape hiss, Radio static
- •Vocal/Crowd: Stadium crowd, Church choir, Whispers, Chanting
- •These go into the Lyrics field as bracket tags — separate from the per-line effects in Step 9
Pro tip: Ambient sounds add atmosphere. 1-3 effects is the sweet spot — more can clutter the mix.
Step 11: Musical Key & Scale PREMIUM
31 musical theory options — or leave it on Auto and let SUNO decide.
- •17 keys: C Major through B Minor
- •5 modes: Dorian, Mixolydian, Phrygian, Lydian, Aeolian
- •9 scales: Pentatonic, Blues Scale, Harmonic Minor and more
- •Each option includes an explanation of its character
Pro tip: Most users should leave this on Auto. Use specific keys when you want to match another track or set a mood.
Step 12: Results & Export FREE
Your finished prompt, ready to paste into SUNO Custom Mode.
- •Style Field — your tags in the correct SUNO priority order, with character and tag counts
- •Lyrics Field — your song structure with all bracket tags, effects, and lyrics
